A Year in Mexico: In numbers

In the last year we have:

Stayed in over 50 Airbnbs/hotels
Travelled roughly about 12,000km round Mexico, through 16 states (of 32 states)
Had to get our car towed twice & fixed in 15 different garages
Visited around 20 archaeological sites
Swum in 10 cenotes
Completed 1 month of language school in Guatemala
Hosted 4 sets of guests
Learned to dance Salsa after just 4 lessons
Kinda learned to surf after 5 lessons each
Kinda learned to speak Spanish
Went paddle boarding for the first time
Read around 52 books each
Drunk way too many Margaritas (Kathryn) [Ben edit: "Too many" = 4]
Drunk Tequila in Tequila


15. Tried Micheladas (lager with lime and spicy salt)
16. Tried cactus, locusts (Ben), Shark (Ben), Marlin pate (Ben), “Mad” corn on the cob (Kathryn)
17. Managed not to start drinking till the evening (usually)
18. Met lots of lovely people
19. Swum with rays, turtles, sea lions and all kinds of colourful fish
20. Got up close & personal to grey whales in Magdalena Bay
21. Only visited a hospital once (for my nephew, nothing serious)

22. Seen millions of butterflies at the Monarch butterfly colonies in Michoacan
23. Seen crocodiles, raccoons, flocks of parrots, horses and a rattle snake in the wild
24. Encountered 1 tarantula in the house without screeming (Kathryn), released said tarantula into the wild (Ben)
25. Captured & released 3 scorpions (Ben)
26. Rescued around 100 tadpoles from the swimming pool and released them in a local pond (our nephews with our help)
27. Released a baby turtle into the sea
28. Generally had one totally awesome first year of travelling!
